Grand Army of The Republic Veteran Memoriam for S. D. Haight (Samuel D. Haight) of Scottville, Michigan
This Memoriam ribbon with medals is quite details. It has front and back ribbons, two medals (see photos), lace edges and tassels.
Item Details:
Front: Hands shaking medal made by the (written underneath the hands) "Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark N.J." Attached to this medal/pin is a ribbon with two flags. This ribbon is in poor shape (up-close photo of the tear), but the stitched on flags seem to be in are in fair (maybe good?) condition. I am not an expert , so please look closely at the pictures and judge for yourself. The ribbon is holding another medal that is oval with a picture inside that looks very much like my other auction: Civil War Grand Army of the Republic Veteran Medal . Around this states: "Grand Army Of The Republic." Underneath says: "Whitehead & Hoag Co. Newark N.J." The Ribbon holding all this is red white and blue.

The back ribbon is black with the G. A. R. "star" surrounded by a wreath.

And Finally, the back of the Back Ribbon has a "The Whitehead & Hoag Co." Label. It has a decent amount of text, including "Badges, Buttons, Banners, and Advertising Novelties." And "Typographical Union Label No. 103." It also includes the patents with various dates that range from 1892 to 1896.
Who is S. D. Haight? After some searching, I'm 99 percent certain that S. D. Haight is Samuel D. Haight who died in 1890 in Ludington, Michigan. He served in the 9th Michigan Calvary and became a First Lieutenant. I have found what I'm fairly certain is his obituary as well. You can find it : /th/read/MI-GENEALOGY/2005-06/1120174253 .
