Superb Original Civil War Veteran Encampment Medal for the Ladies of the GAR 44th National Encampment in Atlantic City, September, 1910. The medal is in the shape of a shell and pictures a lighthouse in yellow and black enamel (probably Absecon Lighthouse) with a city in the background. Measures about 4 3/8" in overall length. These Ladies of the GAR items have been among the most underappreciated pieces in the Civil War collecting field. Fortunately, they are beginning to come into their own as collectors begin to appreciate the social and political importance of the Ladies of the GAR. This medal is particularly interesting with the Absecon Lighthouse featured Wonderful Medal. NO RESERVE. Ohio buyers add 6.5% sales tax. Buyer pays insurance if desired.
