US Civil War Letter & cover 7-30-1864 from soldier Joseph Maitland, 95th Ohio Reg. in camp near La Grange Tenn, to girlfriend Bell Wharton in Urbana Ohio. Joe is back in La Grange after another expedition back and forth from Memphis. Mission is unclear however he believes they are there to work on repairs to the railroad bed so that a supply line can be opened up and a new supply camp set up. Joe has hopes the the recent call for 500,000 men will bring more into service. Not the usual mushiness in this letter to Bell. Could be he is being more cautious about what he writes if he does not believe that Bell is not sharing his letters., More great content in this one. Great letter!!
