The AMES manufacturing company is known for being the premier supplier of swords to the federal government before, during and after the Civil War. The sword offered for sale is known as the model M1860 light cavalry sword. The other prominent sword model is known as the "wristbreaker" heavy cavalry model. Both were the dominent swords ordered during the civil war. is your opportunity to obtain a genuine Ames sword dated 1865. On the pommel you will note GKC inspector mark. This stands for George K. Charter. The sword blade is in very good shape. T are three microscopic nicks indicating it was actually issued and used for its intended purpose. The scabbard has several dents which was normal for soldiers to make the sword not rattle. The blade goes in very smooth in and out of the scabbard. On the ricasso reads US/JCW/1865 and the other side Made by AMES Mfg Chicopee. The pommel as stated earlier has GKC. Happy bidding.Lowered Beginning Price to $399.99!!!
