Offered for sale is a really great collectors item and a wonderful addition to any Civil War buffs collection. It is a Civil War Field Officers Sword, circa 1850. The sword and scabbard together have an overall length of 38" with the blade itself measuring 32 3/8 " from its tip to hilt. Other than slight polishing i have not done anything to change the swords appearance or condition for fear of lessening its value. I have included many pictures and will be as detailed as possible in my description.

SIDE 1 OF BLADE.........Near handle is the W. Clauberg , Solingen germany trademark / logo of a 'standing man ' The government imported many swords from overseas and W. Clauberg of Germany was one of the best. Further down on this side of the blade......from 8 1/4 " to 15 1/2 " down from the handle are the block letters.....US.....with scrolling on either side. While t are no pitting holes , the blade is dark from age and t is some ' freckling'.

SIDE 2 OF BLADE......Again ,t i are no pitting holes , but the blade is a bit dark with age with the same sort of ' freckling'. From 10 1/2 " to 13 1/4 " down from the handle is an Eagle with its wings unfurled with " E Pluribus Unum " below it.

TOP OF BLADE.......near handle are the words " Iron Proof "

GRIP.....The actual grip of the sword , within the handguard is bare steel. Whatever was covering it is now gone.

HAND GUARD..............The brass handle/ hand guard is really beautiful ! It has excellent detail and etching. Lady Liberty is depicted holding a spear....with the word ..." Liberty" behind her head and the letters " US " to her lower left.

SCABBARD........Old appearance and the metal is tarnished with many dings and dents throughout its length. The throat and two bands holding the hooks appear to be brass.
