A unique collection of Civil War documents and pin/ribbon for Ohio Volunteer Infantry soldier Stephen Smith. The collection includes a pin and ribbon for the 113th Regiment of the Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Second Brigade, Second Division as well as discharge & pension documents for soldier Stephen Smith, 2 hand-written accounts by Smith, a document listing the battles the division participated in, and a photo from Linton studios in Columbus Ohio that is not specifically identified as Stephen Smith, but was acquired along with the collection of documents at an estate sale, so the portrait is likely that of Smith. Smith was discharged at Louisville, KY on July 6, 1865 and the document is stamped "Bounty Paid, Washington D.C. Jan. 25 1867, D. Taylor, Paymaster USA" and is accompanied by a document verifying the $100 bounty payment signed by D. Taylor. The pension documents are dated 1891, 1896, and 1900 with an incomplete form to received pension payments from June through September of 1910. There are 2 hand-written accounts by Smith, one of which is faded and difficult to read since it was originally written in pencil. It appears to document rheumatism and heart problems associated with his time in the service.
