This auction is for a Civil War Soldierâe(tm)s Wifeâe(tm)s Diary and Extras. The diary was written in an old ledger. The diary starts January 1st, 1960 and goes thru August of 1962. After that, t are some notes on events, personal feelings, and poetry that the wife wrote in the diary. The diary became more of a scrapbook after August 1962 with items pasted to the pages such as letters, poetry, and pictures. T are some pages missing out of the ledger, but from what I can tell they were from the ledger and not the diary/scrapbook.
Harmon W. Paddelford enlisted in August 1962 and was a 1st Corporal of Company A 20th Brigade of the Michigan Infantry. He was with the Army of the Potomac in Virginia when he got sick and was brought back to a hospital in Maryland. He died on November 10th 1962 of typhoid fever. Also, included with the diary are a picture of Harmon W. Paddelford, a letter from the Lansing Michigan Republican Party, an unused 3 page mourning stationary, a 9 page hand written sermon from Harmonâe(tm)s funeral that was on December 3rd 1862 in Lansing, Michigan, and a tissue that might be a death scrod from his funeral.
