Just in time for the Holidays we are placing another of our Historical Impressions gowns up for auction. Each one of these gowns is designed with the serious historian in mind and sewn from the finest of materials. Many hours of research and design go into these gown. Military trimmed gowns w worn by both the ladies of the North and South. The Christmas of 1862 saw New Orleans under the command of General Butler. Many of these ladies in defiance of his orders trimmed their gowns and dresses with military trim. The ladies of the North trimmed t gowns with the finest of silk chevrons. This gowns was designed from a rich chestnut colored quality tafetta. The formal bodice is fully trimmed in military grandeur. The lightly boned bodice features romantic open butterfly pagoda sleeves that are trimmed with French gimp, brass buttons and quality tassels at the top of the sleeve opening. The v-front of the bodice is trimmed with black gross gran ribbons in the chevron designed and embellished with tiny brass buttons. The v-front bodice is trimmed at the bottom and along the slightly off the shoulder neck line with the finest of black French gimps The v-front bodice closes at the back with reproduction Victorian ornate buttons. Bodice body is lined with polished cotton butterfly pagoda sleeves are lined in black tafetta. The skirt was hand direstional pleated and sewn to the waist band in a period correct manner. The gowns has a sweep of over 180 inches and is shown over a 6 bone hoop with flounce(hoop is not included) In order to carry the military theme thru out the gown we have added a black taffeta ornate Medici belt with chevrons to the bustle area of the gown. These chevrons are trimmed with military souche braid in a lite chestnut color The chevrons are also trimmed with tiny reproduction Victorian buttons and black tassels that match the buttons on the front of the bodice. Gown is app size 16. and measures as follows waist 33 to 35 bust 36 to 41 1/2 gown is on a sewing dummy that measures 34 waist and 41 1/2 bust and fits well. measurement around neck line is 43-44 The skirt unhemmed measures 46. This gown has many design techniques that you see when you study the 1860's Godeys ladies magazines.
