Up for auction is an old tintype photo of two western dressed white men along with an African American man. It is about 2 by 3 inches in size. The tintype looks to have came out of an old family album as it has some paper stuck to the back. It is rare to see both white and black men with their photo taken together durning the 1800's. These three men must have had a close relationship and been friends. It is interesting that both the man on the left and the black man both have their arms crossed in the same pose. The tintype is identified on the back in writting that one can tell has been on t for a long time. It says the two white men are Johnathon Cooper Boone and Richard Sauce Boone. I can't tell for sure on their middle name. It identifies the black man as being "Mike the hired man". A lot of time during that period, slave owners would rent their slaves out to other growers and the slaves were referred to as a hired man. T is a date on the back that says "about 1857". Mike most likely was been born into slavery and very possibly a slave at the time the tintype was taken. I know that a lot of slaves were only given and known by a first name during the time of slavery. This tintype was found in Kentucky which was a slave state during and before the civil war. I do not know if the two men identified with the last name Boone is any relation to the famous Daniel Boone family or not. It is my thinking that whoever wrote the date which was most likely a later Boone family member, may be a few years off as to when he/she recalled the tintype was taken. Tintypes came about during the 1860's so the photo was most likely taken then. The tintype shows wear and has some scratches and bends, etc. Check listing photos. Still a nice image with a lot of detail and interesting history to it. Starting bid is $95.00 with shipping by priority mail with delivery confirmation for $6.50. This amount also includes insurance equal to the winning bid. Paypal or Postal Money Order is both acceptable but a paypal account is needed to bid. I aways package well and ship quickly. Thanks for the interest.
