This 10.5" dark blue historical Staffordshire plate is in MINT condition, with just a couple of light utensil marks, a tiny back rim glaze scrape, and stilt marks on the reverse, keeping me from calling it PROOF. It is either a deep plate or a shallow soup, dates to 1830 and was made by James and Ralph Clews. It bears their impressed circle and crown mark on the reverse. It is variously known as a "STATES" plate (for the names of the 15 original States compising the ribboned border), or "America and Independence" plate (for the words along the bottom front). The plate bears the medallion image of George Washington as well as images of Ladies Liberty and Justice. It is a very intricate pattern with a central view known as "Mansion with Sheep on Lawn." T are 14 different center views in the series. If you need an example in superb condition..... it is. The free listing tool. List your items fast and easy and manage your active items.
