This is a classically proportioned museum quality seventeenth or eighteenth century Italian stiletto dagger. The fine scale indicates that it was a weapon intended to be carried concealed by a lady for personal protection, often referred to as a Bodice Dagger. The construction is all steel. The blade is triangular in section and is devoid of a ricasso, running straight into the guard. It has an "F" armorers mark stamped into the hilt. The guard is gracefully curved with tapered quillons. The pommel is a renaissance style finial in steel matching the qillons. The dagger is in a superb state of preservation and shows only the degree of patina appropriate to its age. Solid and tight throughout. This is another piece from my own collection, some of which I am selling to finance a new project. A real find for the serious collector. Overall length 8 ½", blade 5 ½".
