Catulle , one of France's prominent fashion designers, painted his fashions into typical French scenes of reality and fantasy. Catulle is an internationally acclaimed and well listed artist. Davenports and virtually all major references. Artcurial (S.V.V.) Paris has extensive auction records for this fine artist with records up to $750.00 for his watercolor, gouache and crayon mix works. Gallery and dealer prices are of course generally higher. Compared to others, this one is exceptionally nice. Catulle has designed Sets and Costumes for the Paris Opera, and the Comedie Francaise. His work is on permanent display at the Bibliotheque Nationale , France. This is a wonderful painting of a Pirate , Scoundrel ? , with a witch hunt type town scene in the background presenting itself with a crescent moon and a hang man dangling from rope . In the lower right hand corner there are fabrics that match the drawing. This is typical for Catulle's Fashion Paintings. PROVENANCE: A collector of French art. Palos Verdes, Ca. It is framed in a lovely black and silver antique looking contemporary wood. The painting has been mounted on Rag board. There is a Plexiglas cover. On Verso there is a biography page taped on.
