These birds are native to West Virginia with the driftwood from West Virginia lakes. It is signed "C. Kemper # 9. It measures 13 inches across by 10 inches high by 8 inches deep. The condition of this carving is very good. It is dusty, but with no damage. Straight from the local estate sale in Jane Lew W.V It was found on a high shelf in a local home, where it has been enjoyed for many years.I HAVE 2 MORE LISTED THE RARE SIGNED WOOD DOVES & THE BLACK COPPED CHICKADEE It is my understanding that Claude Kemper returned to his native West Virginia holler after his retirement to pursue his love of carving indigenous birds. His carvings were in great demand with a waiting list for his works continuing after his death. THE FOLLOWING IS FROM RESEARCH ON THE WEBClaude Kemper grew up on a 150 acre farm on Tanner Creek Road in Gilmer County.
