Claude Spero - Superb Charcoal Portrait Claude Spero - A charcoal drawing of the very highest order. On laid. Not as pristine as most of the other works by Spero, with some smudging and grottiness at the very top. Claude Spero was a French artist working primarily on the South coast of France in the late 19th and early 20th Century. All of the works that we are selling are from an album of his watercolours and drawings. Many are signed and a few are dated (all from the 1890's). All are unquestionably by his hand. Because these works are from an album, they have never been exposed to light, smoke, or other noxious influences. As a result, they are generally in the finest original condition. Some look as if they could have been painted yesterday. (There are a couple of exceptions where it appears the works were displayed and later added to the album, and this has been noted). The works are of varying levels of finish: some are rough sketches, some are unfinished, and some are magnificent polished works of art. All are unframed. Please wait for or request an invoice if you buy more than one item.95% of framed pictures (except the very small ones) are now being sent out in custom made cartons. These are extremely sturdy telescopic cartons that provide a level of protection virtually as good as a wooden crate. These are far superior to recycled cartons which usually have been weakened by prior use. The cost for each of these cartons is exactly �4.00 which must be passed on to the buyer. Since we have been using these cartons, there have been essentially no reports of damage in transit. From time to time we do stumble across a previously used carton which is as good as ours, and on occassions we do use them. For overseas shipments we often use alternative packing means to keep the weight under 2kg. Usually this means about 20 layers of bubble wrap (which is very light) and very little cardboard.Full insurance is included in the postage and packing charge. No carrier will insure against damage to artwork or antiques so we provide this insurance ourselves. There is a small amount included in the shipping charge for this.Glass will be removed from all overseas shipments and all pieces of glass with either dimension greater than 45cm will be removed from UK shipments. Despite best packing efforts, the carriers manage to break larger pieces of glass with frustrating regularity.
