Two original hand written log books for the Cleveland Fire Department, Engine 31, 751 E. 152 nd St. (newly built in 1991 at 925, E. 152nd), in the heart of Collinwood. Entries are in various hands and contain the day to day operations of the station, names and roll calls, inspections, standard procedures including firefighter deaths, calls, incident reports, statistics, supplies and more. Collinwood was and still is a heavily industrial neighborhood of Cleveland, relying mainly on the local train yards. These logs were written just before all of the Cleveland fire stations were finally provided with motorized engines in 1925, during a period of fire station expansion, technology upgrades and drastic personnel increases following the tragic fires in the 1884 Cleveland Flats fire, and the infamous 1908 Lakeview Elementary school fire tragedy. Of course these logs come from a very busy fire station, containing countless pieces of information that would never reach the local news. This is a genuine one of a kind piece of Cleveland and Collinwood Village history.First book is for May 1 st - December 31, 1922, 500pp.; second book is for June 1 st - November 10 th , 1924, 512pp. Each book measures 8 3/4"x 13 1/2", cloth hardcovers.
