Whatever remains unsold will be put in storage and I will be closing my Ebay Store. Clevenger was the last of the old time South Jersey Glasshouses and likely the last of it's kind anyw In the 18th & 19th century, South Jersey was the center of glass manufacturing in America. T were dozens of glass factories, employing thousands of workers. At that time all glass was made by hand and the masters blowers were true craftsmen. After the invention of the automatic glass machines in the early 1900's, South Jersey glass workers were no longer needed and moved on to other employment. A few however, continued the tradition of South Jersey Glass blowing by operating small glasshouses. Over time these too disappeared as the old time masters died off. Clevenger was one the more successful & prolific of these. It operated much the same as the great glass factories of the 1700 & 1800's, but on a much smaller scale. Operating from 1930 till 1999, the small unpretentious factory is still standing and has been designated a Historic Site. Collectors of Clevenger Glass possess a unique, genuine link to the roots of American Glass and it is becoming a prized collectible sure to increase in value.
