Staffordshire Stateside Antiques Nineteenth Century English Transferware and White Ironstone Clews Cobalt Blue Transferware Platter, Palestine, 1814 We are happy to offer is beautiful dark blue transferware platter. The cobalt blue is quite vivid with a sharply transferred design. The oriental pattern is entitled Palestine. The design is distinctive both for its great border which includes graceful hanging willows and palm tree elements, and for the scene in the well which features various pagodas, a walking bridge, and river scene. It was made in the pottery of James and Ralph Clews and bears the imprinted mark. Note also that the early platter has a combed back, another indication of its early potting. It measures 15 inches wide by 12 1/2 inches. Condition is excellent - no chips, cracks, hairlines, stains, or restorations. Our listings are true antiques, not reproductions. They are over 100 years old and often much older than that. If, however, we do list a reproduction, we will clearly describe it as such in the listing. Antique Staffordshire pottery usually shows stilt marks or edge marks from the firing process. Pottery that has been around for over 100 years may show some crazing. Some wear and utensil scratching can also be expected, though if it is beyond minor, it will be described. If you win, please respond with a return
