A FISHING VILLAGE ON THE CLYDE - BY - NAOMI MITCHISON AND G W LENNOX PATERSON PUBLISHED - OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS 'PEOPLE OF BRITAIN SERIES' 1960 FIRST EDITION This is an attractive old school book, published probably with a junior school library in mind or to be part of a reading scheme. The cover is typically a canvas/cloth folded covered card containing 32 pages. The binding is stitched. It has been written in an autobiographical style. There are a number of line drawings, two full page, a few half page but most pages carry a small sketch. There is also a map. In the opening paragraph the writer, Naomi Mitchison(?) describes where her village, Port-Na-Sgadan, is and the places she mentions as being nearby I have placed in the search box. I presume G W Lennox-Paterson is responsible for the drawings. The book describes the day to day work of those men and women involved in the fishing industry and their boats and equipment. The book has been well read but is in good sound condition. There are some rubber stamp printings indicating ownership by Gotteridge School. This book is number one of a series of five listed on the back cover, probably published together as one set for school purchase. It is a nice old example of what was read in schools 50 years ago and is still pleasant to look at and read even if it did have eleven year read more
