A very rarely found lilac mauve colourway classic Coalport batwing pattern tea trio (comprising squat cup, saucer, and circular teaplate) dating from pre-1920. The cup stands two and a quarter inches tall (including the upwardly protruding handle); the plate width is seven inches, and the saucer width is five and a half inches. All three pieces carry the Coalport, England, AD.1750, crown insignia backstamp of the period along with pattern number Y.3086 and (on the saucer and plate) impressed 14 I 16 which is presumed to indicate the year 1916 as the date of actual manufacture. All three pieces are in excellent condition and ring clearly, thus confirming the presence of no hidden hairlines; there is a little very light undiscoloured surface glaze crazing present on the cup and (on the plate only) some rubbing to the trailing gilt foliage along with a couple of very minor surface scratches, but the heavy gilt bordering and rim edgings remain fully complete and unrubbed throughout; absolutely no chips or cracks, nor any fading or discolouration, and no restoration. We have a very reasonable start price for this rare colourway Batwing and there is no reserve.
