Here is a very rare 1924 – side logo silver plate 5 ¾” tall by 7 5/8” wide (from the tip of the spout across to the opposite side of the handle) large 16 oz. coffee pot from the United States Coast Guard. The coffee pot is very rare in the fact that it features the 13 Star Shield logo on the side, which was that used by the early Coast Guard. This is authentic vintage hotel and railroad type silver plate coffee pot that actually was used by the US Coast Guard. Not much of this very early silver plate has survived over the years. Rarely have I ever see any USCG silver with this logo; especially, in the form of a coffee pot. This shield logo is almost identical to the old logo of the era of the United States Shipping Board, but the USSB logo only has 3 stars, compared to this USCG, which has 13. Historically, the Coast Guard began as the Revenue Cutter Service, which was founded on August 4th, 1790, as part of the Department of the Treasury. Later in 1915, the Revenue Cutter Service was merged with the National Lifesaving Service, which by an act of Congress became the Coast Guard. During prohibition in the 1920’s, the Coast Guard was involved heavily of trying to stop the flow of alcohol on the nations coastal waters, great lakes, and even rivers from the Rum Runners and Bootleggers.
