This is a super nice... deep Cobalt Blue... two handled Spooner... in that delightful old "Inverted Thistle" pattern... and with a "breath taking"... Carnival Glass finish. It stands 5 and ½ inches tall... 4 inches across the top... about 6 and ½ inches wide from handle to handle... and 3 and ¼ inches across the deeply imprinted Star-Burst bottom. It appears to be in excellent condition. This dark Cobalt Blue body glass has to be one of the very best glass colors on which to apply a Carnival Glass finish. It just seems to make the multitude of colors... "slither" like fleeting rainbows of color... across the surface of the glass. Stunning... is to put it mildly!!!... Down inside... right in the center of the bottom... t's the imprint of a "Bumble Bee" in the glass. I believe this was the mark for a glass maker by the name of "Higbee"... I don't know much about this glass maker... except... they're long gone!!!... I also see a small "Keystone" shaped mark with the letter "R" in the center of it... right next to that "Bumble Bee". I believe this was the mark for a glass wholesaler that was closely affiliated with the Westmoreland Glass Company for many years. This makes me wonder if Westmoreland had at one time owned the molds to produce this Spooner???... As for the pattern. The Inverted Thistle pattern was introduce to the glass world by the Cambridge Glass Company. again I don't have much information on the "life span" of this maker either... but again know that they are also... long gone. Spooners... once a prominent fixture on most dinning room tables... have gone the way of the... Slat Dips... Bone Dishes... Water Pitchers... and others items... that seemed to have been a part of yesterdays... everyday life. Today... we may not need a Spooner as such... but wouldn't this make just a super Vase for a bunch of cut flowers!!!... Or how about as a receptacle for serving fresh green onions or celery sticks in!!!... Or how about... just to set in the window... or on that special shelf... and simply to enjoy!!!... This is just a super nice Spooner!!!...
