INTRODUCTION : This is an extremely nice piece of pewter hollowware. It is in excellent condition - outstanding considering, at best guess, it is well over one hundred years old. Bought from eBay in 1996, I used it for display in a Dutch cupboard. Down-sizing has seen the end of the Dutch cupboard and anywhere to display this lovely, old coffee pot.PARTICULARS : By the nature of the metal, pewter is soft. An alloy of tin and copper, it needs careful handling. Originally, in ancient Egypt, where the first pewter was made, it was tin and lead. By the 19th Century, lead was disallowed and copper was the main additive. This made for a lighter metal, therefore more dings and dents. What has kept this piece in good condition is that it is heavy. It weighs 1 pound, 5 ounces, is 8 inches across from handle to spout and is 13 inches in circumference. The pot is small - 7 inches high, 4 inches wide at the opening and 3 1/4 inches across the bottom. It holds 4 cups of liquid. It is a solid, lovely piece with a stunning patina. The only negative about pewter is it can not go into the dishwasher.NITTY-GRITTY : I ship on the first business day after getting a receipt of payment via USPS or FedEx. I DO NOT ship to post office boxes. I insure all items costing more than $24.00 at my expense. I do not charge any handling fee. If an insured item is read more
