Presented, without reserve, is a pair of American coin silver spectacles circa 1840. Heavy gauge metal. These eye glasses measure 4 3/8" across from outside edges of hinges. The arms mechanically extend and contract for ease of storage. Length contracted approximately 3 1/2", extended 5 3/4". Incised maker's mark is J. PETERS on inside right arm near hinge. Mark is crisp, clear, and easily legible. This is the mark of James Peters a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania , silversmith working circa 1821-50. Condition is Very Good. Surface consistent with normal wear. T appears, from the front, to have been an old, professional repair of the right lens circle w it meets the nose bridge. From the back it appears more to be a mere reinforcement. And like even contemporary glasses one arm seems somewhat out of kilter and looser that the other. It is impossible to tell for sure but we may even have the original screws and rivet pins. T are no lenses. Check out my other items ! JUST THE FACTS, MA'AM NOTES Flatware and small items are often photographed on a scanner which tends to give everything a gray or green look and, sometimes, red or yellow streaks. Sorry. All silver will be hand polished before shipping and any damage or discoloration will be noted in the description. As I tend to over describe any faults, it should look better than you expect
