Beschreibung / Description Excellent, very decorative and old-coloured copper map by Willem and Joan Blaeu, about 1650 out of the book: "Theatrum orbis terrarum sive Atlas novus ..." Amsterdam, about 1650 Map of Asia "ASIA / noviter delineata ..." Cartographer: Willem Blaeu (1571-1638) was a Dutch cartographer. Joan Blaeu (1596-1673) was a Dutch cartographer and engraver. He was the son of Willem Blaeu. Joan and his brother Cornelius took over the studio after their father had died in 1638. Joan became the official cartographer of the Dutch East India Company. Description: This is a very interesting and beautiful old-coloured copper engraving map by Blaeu. The map shows Asia with all the countries, regions and important localities like India , China or Japan . At the left side t is a part of Africa, Arabia as well as Europe . On top of the view, situated in little cartouches, t are different city views for example of Jerusalem , Calcutta or Goa . Besides the map t are ten little, very nice coloured pictures of local people in their special and typical clothes, for instance from Persia , Arabia, Moscow and China . The map is decorated with a very nice title cartouche, held by two hunters, numerous sailing ships, whales and typical animals like lions, elephants and so on.
