Beschreibung / Description Excellent, very decorative and old-coloured copper map by Willem and Joan Blaeu, about 1650 out of the book: "Theatrum orbis terrarum sive Atlas novus ..." Amsterdam, about 1650 Map of Asia "ASIA / noviter delineata ..." Cartographer: Willem Blaeu (1571-1638) was a Dutch cartographer. Joan Blaeu (1596-1673) was a Dutch cartographer and engraver. He was the son of Willem Blaeu. Joan and his brother Cornelius took over the studio after their father had died in 1638. Joan became the official cartographer of the Dutch East India Company. Description: This is a very interesting and beautiful old-coloured copper engraving map by Blaeu. The map shows Asia with all the countries, regions and important localities like India , China or Japan . At the left side t is a part of Africa, Arabia as well as Europe . On top of the view, situated in little cartouches, t are different city views for example of Jerusalem , Calcutta or Goa . Besides the map t are ten little, very nice coloured pictures of local people in their special and typical clothes, for instance from Persia , Arabia, Moscow and China . The map is decorated with a very nice title cartouche, held by two hunters, numerous sailing ships, whales and typical animals like lions, elephants and so on. At the back side t are Latin explanations. Amsterdam, um 1650 Karte von Asien "ASIA / noviter delineata ..." Kartograph: Willem Blaeu (1571-1638) war ein niederländischer Kartograph. Joan Blaeu (1596-1673) war ein niederländischer Kartograph und Kupferstecher. Er ist der Sohn Willem Blaeus und kam um 1603 nach Amsterdam, wo sein Vater ein auf die Herstellung von Erdgloben und Karten spezialisiertes Unternehmen gründete. Nach dem Tod seines Vaters setzte er den Betrieb bis zur Auflösung 1698 fort. Beschreibung: Es handelt sich um eine interessante, sehr schön dekorierte und altkolorierte Kupferstich-Karte von Blaeu. Sie zeigt den Kontinent Asien mit allen dort gelegenen Ländern und Regionen wie China, Indien, Japan usw. Außerdem werden Teile Europas und Afrikas abgebildet. Im oberen Bereich sind in kleinen Kartuschen verschiedene Stadtansichten dargestellt, z. B. von Kalkutta, Goa und Jerusalem. Links und rechts der Karte befinden sich je fünf kleine Bildnisse mit Menschengruppen dieses Erdteils in entsprechender lokaler zeitgenössischer Kleidung. So sind bspw. Personen aus China, Persien, Arabien, Moskau oder der Tartarei zu erkennen. Die gesamte Karte ist mit einer hübschen Rollwerk-Titelkartusche, die von zwei Jägern gehalten wird, mehreren Segelschiffen, im Meer schwimmenden Walen und weiteren typischen Tieren, wie Elefanten oder Löwen, dekoriert. Auf der Rückseite befindet sich erläuternder lateinischer Text.
