Crawford's ill fated expedition against the Wyandot Indians along the Upper Sandusky river.William Crawford knew and fought for George Washington in the Revolutionary War. He was a participant in the French/Indian Wars and involved in Lord Dunmore's War. He had been retired and appointed Justice of the Peace at his home in western Pennsylvania when he was called up to lead the Expedition against the tribes for their depredations against settlers in Ohio. The Wyandots were backed by British forces in Detroit who found out about the plan, and sent reinforcements. After marching across Ohio he found himself surrounded by the Indians and was captured.
