Cold Steel decided to make a knife very similar to the SOG knives from the Vietnam era and this is their handy work. They call it the UWK . It follows the original profile of Vietnam SOG's very closely. The blade is 6 1/2" long with Carbon V steel . Carbon V steel is a high carbon , low alloy cutlery grade steel. Cold Steel keeps a close watch in the manufacturing process to produce the very best steel they can. With tight specifications this steel is absolutely excellent. If you can see from the pics t is a gel or grease like oil that the UWK comes with. That's because of the high carbon. Keep this blade wiped dry of any moisture to keep the edge free from rust. This is a custom steel made by the Cold Steel company and is not a cheap process to create. The blades are even blanked parallel to the rolling direction of the steel plate to optimize grain flow along the length. The UWK also has a black epoxy powder coat to minimize reflection and elemental protection. The handle is made of integral Kraton with a guard and lanyard hole. In keeping with the UWK's tactical mission, Cold Steel included a thermo plastic sheath made of Secure-Ex with an adjustable Cordura belt loop. Your UWK will come brand new in it's original box , never used or sharpened. It will be hard to find a fixed blade knife with more style and tactical performance that this knife has.
