These tiny birds in a clear glaze over natural clay with glossy black glaze accents are great examples of North Carolina Southern folk art from Cole Pottery, Sanford, North Carolina turned by Winfred Cole (1932-1997), son of A R Cole. Winfred is recognized for his whimsical birds, ducks, and animals. These birds are wonderfully formed miniatures. The adult birds are is 1 1/4 inches tall and 1 1/4 inches long. The "baby" bird is just 1/2 inch tall and 1/2 inch long. They are made of red clay in the tradition of earlier Cole potters and are in mint condition with no chips, dings, or cracks. The two larger birds are signed "WC" for Winfred Cole. The baby bird is not signed but definitely made by Winfred Cole. Priority Mail is $4.05. Insurance is optional but recommended.
