is a great set of handmade spurs from the cowboy who has become the most collectible maker of our time Jerry Cates. Jerry mounted his first spurs back around 1960 and never slowed down from t In 1969 he started working with his friend Bill Handley. All their pieces were marked OX. They built trophy bits for the Old Settlers reunions in 1973 and 1976. The OX marked pieces are also very collectible. By 1979 Bill had moved away and Jerry was building on his own again. He has been honored as spur maker of the year by the Academy of Western Artists. He was also co winner of the first Adolph Bayers spurmaker award in 2007. He is credited for influencing and helping many of the top makers in Texas like Terry Alward, and Kevin Burns just to name a few. This great pair of spurs have been in my collection for several years now. They have a 1 1/8" band with a 2" shank with chap guard and a great 1 3/4" 14 point rowel. The rowel is original to this pair but the rowel pins had to be replaced. I believe Jerry did this about 4 years ago and they were not worn much after that. The rowels realy sing in these! They are mounted with 26 pieces of hand cut hand engraved silver.They are maker marked CATES 2531.
