VINTAGE VOLUPTE MUSIC BOX COMPACT (CARRYALL) Very rare. It comes with a black faille carrying case.In Roselyn Gerson's book, Ladies' COMPACTS of the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries , she says, " The Volupte Company in Elizabeth, New Jersey, was oneof the most prolific manufacturers of ladies' compacts in the late 1930s and 1940s."The exterior of the compact is silvertone and goldtone with ribbing. It has a goldtoned violin on it. The opening clasp works perfectly. The compact alone measures 5 1/4 inch by 3 inch by 1/4 inch.It weighs approximately 12 ounces without the carryall. The interior has compartments for: powder, puff (original with Volupte on it), mirror and behind the mirror a space for cigarettes, comb, money or personal items. The lipstick you pull out on the bottom right exterior. The interior music box has a small turn key that you hand wind. The song (I think) is, "Autumn in New York" which plays slowly. I am amazed it still works! On the very back where the hinges are, there are twenty little metalthings that cover the hinges. One of them is missing. It is less than 1/8th of an inch. The black faille case has normal wear and tear for a piece this old.On the back of the black faille is a snap that opens up toa compartment which was probably used to carry money. In Gerson's book, dated 1989, the value of Volupte compacts read more
