This boxwood flute has 4 keys and 6 open holes. It has 3 interchangeable middle sections. It is housed in a cardboard case that also contains a leather case with a moustache brush, comb and mirror. It was owned by my great, great, great grandfather, named Guentzel (German: Gunzel). The cardboard flute case is hand painted on the back and inside the cover, the name "Gunzel" is on a gold seal. T are a few small chips in the tortoise binding (see photos). Two of the center sections are missing the wrapped string gaskets. On one of the center sections, the brass key is missing its spring, however, the overall shape of this flute given its age, is very good. The photo of the residence shows the Gunzel castle in the small town of Herbsleben, Germany w the flute was until it was brought over to the U.S. in 1889 by his great grandson, August Guentzel. August also studied music, was a nationally known composer, director and a member of the bands of Patrick Sarsfield Gilmore, John Phillip Sousa and Noel Poepping. He was also a musical arranger for Warner Bros. & Fox Studios. August's daughter, my grandmother, gave me the flute 28 years ago and I have held onto it ever since. I am a musician myself and would like to see the flute find its way to a collector who can appreciate this instrument and keep it conserved.Inscribed on the flute is the read more
