Gorgeous Colleen Moore Compact by Darnee, New York with an engraved patent date of July 1, 1924. This silver toned oval shaped compact has engraved designs on the top and bottom that remind me of rippling water. It is in very good condition with some very tiny spots of discoloration on the bottom of the base. Colleen Moore was a cosmetic house that made compacts for the mass market. (I think Colleen Moore was a movie star). The Darnee Company was located in New York. One story that I read about these compacts indicated that they were made for Owl Drug Stores.Measuring approximately 2 3/4" in length and 2" in width, it has a lift like opening. T is no puff. The mirror has some very tiny flaws, none of which are detracting. The mirror is solidly in place, with no chips or cracks. This a true silver color that I had great trouble photographing because of light reflections. The metal looks purplely in the pictures, but it is not. This wonderful real vintage compact would make a great addition to a collection. In attending many estate sales over the years, this is the only one I have ever seen. As a result, I do not think that Colleen Moore pieces are that common. I have attempted to describe and picture this lovely old piece accurately and completely. Should you have any question, please email me. Thanks for looking! Because I am downsizing, I am reducing my collections. I really feel that this is a true treasure!
