I HAVE SEVERAL VINTAGE MOVIE SLIDES TO SELL--some of movies, some are vintage advertisements! (happy to combine shipping) Colleen Moore, Gary Cooper "LILAC TIME" 1928 Film This is a vintage glass movie slide from 1928. In color. This slide is from the Hartford City movie theatre that closed years ago. The actual cardboard frame is dated July 1924. Shows normal wear and a few paint chips on glass slide, but most to one area in the upper left corner by her hat. Just when you thought you had all you could possibly want of Colleen Moore or Gary Cooper, you can now have a vintage glass slide that was used to promote the movie during intermission. A wonderful and unique item to add to your collection. Measures 4" x 3 1/4" PLOT DESCRIPTION Ten years after the close of the World War the moving picture producers are still fighting its battles. "Lilac Time" is the First National contribution to the archives of movie war history and it chooses as its particular branch of service the Royal Air Force. Ten years is a long time for memories to hold the hatred which is the adjunct of war; yet if the hatred goes so does much of the vim of a picture on the subject. "Lilac Time," rather than being a war picture, has made the element of fighting less important than the love theme which runs through it. Comparisons are odious, true, but "Wings" with its more than 700 performances naturally springs to mind. "Lilac Time" has a more complete story, but it is told in half-shades w "Wings" is inclined to gamble all on boldness. The aviation portions are about the same in each of the pictures, although t are some excellent views of crashes in "Lilac Time." On the other hand, t if not quite so much airplane fighting. The chief asset of "Lilac Time" seems to be the good direction on the part of George Fitzmaurice. He has paid very careful attention to minute details, and if he has occasionally added too many lilacs, he presumably could be excused on the ground that it is that kind of a story. T is some excellent photography in the film, not so much the scenes in the air as those on the ground. A group of seven planes taking off is well done, and many of the shots in the flight command's headquarters are good. Miss Moore, the leading lady, made her chief reputatin as a comedienne, but in "Lilac Time" she has been called upon to play something different. She acts her part well save in one or two instances when the sentiment of the situation gets a little the better of her. Gary Cooper, as the young man with whom Jeannine falls in love, is passable but not much more. The trouble with the picture lies in its sentiment. War has been made a vehicle for love, and hatred has turned into a pathetic combination of all the virtues. An example of it is when the "Red Ace" and the hero have shot each other down. The hero goes to the hospital, and while walking along a road, Jeannine sees the "Red Ace" lying on the ground. She picks up a stone--a natural thing to do--but when the dying man asks her to give a picture to "Fraulein," she immediately drops down beside him, realizing, apparently, that he, too, is in love. Along with the sentiment is the fact that, as it has been said, t are too many lilacs. Most of the scenes are too pretty, in a half-tone, ephemeral way, and they are not quite real. The lilac is the theme, of course, but when t are whole banks and clusters of them, and when they are the deus ex machina for a happy ending, it goes a little too far. All in all, "Lilac Time" can be called a good picture. It is not excellent, neither is it the comparative of "good." It will likely be a box-office success, however, because of the sentiment--and the lilacs--but it is not of the type which starts heartfelt discussion either pro or con.
