This is a resin Kit, includes truck and Decals PrototypeHistory: In 1907 and 1908 the Colorado & Southern Railroad built 90 narrow gauge wood frame coal cars (numbered 4408 – 4497) using steel components supplied by Bettendorf . Built with Bettendorf cast steel bolsters and steel cast trucks, these coal cars represented a significant advance in technology from the 1898 and 1902 vintage coal cars the railroad had on the roster. These cars can be easily spotted in photographs by the distinctive trucks combined with the wood needle beams – the only C&S coal cars to be so configured. These sturdy cars handled the transport of coal, sand, and lumber on the South Park narrow gauge lines and survived far into the 1930’s. Over their service lives these cars wore two different C&S freight car liveries – the “C&S block” livery and the subsequent C&S “target” livery. The Cimarron Works has included correct* custom decals printed by Rail Graphics to allow the modeler to build this kit in either the 1898 C&S St. Charles as delivered livery or the C&S “block lettering” style c. 1912. *While other firms have produced decals for this interesting car in the past, we are the first to offer decals with accurate artwork painstakingly produced from computer rectified photographs of the prototype. Have a close look, you won’t be disappointed.
