dated Ill. Soldiers and Sailors Home Quincy Ill. April 5 1888, 2-page single letter sheets written on all 4 sides, discussing the accommodations at the home and his fellow veterans, liked many but used quite colorful language for others such as there is a few of them that would not make good dogs. Gives detailed description of his living quarters with dimensions, furnishings and even bedding. Patrick Lowry was quite impressed with the home and states Tell any body that asks you how I like the home that I cant tell half if half of our preachers was describing heaven they would not make it as good as this place. Includes a cdv-sized tintype portrait found with letter and possibly P.A. Lowry. This letter was published in the Effingham County Genealogical Society newsletter in the 1980s. Includes printed soldier`s and unit history.
