A member of the Bautista family, a Tepehuano family well known for their fine yarn work, created this beautiful yarn painting. The Tepehuano are distant cousins to the Huichol. Their yarn art has a distinctly different feel to it; it is strikingly colorful and often uses celestial symbols. It is made by putting a mixture of beeswax and resin on plywood and then pressing yarn onto the wood to create incredible patterns and symbols. The main symbol of this one is the hummingbird, a messenger to the gods . SIZE: 30 cm square (11 1/2inches) I travel to Mexico on a regular basis and represent several Huichol/Tepehuano artist families. The selling of their art is a way they can continue to live in their traditional ways. I am committed to paying a fair price to the artists. Please keep checking for new art that I am listing.
