This is a gorgeous piece of the gun maker's art. If this was a real gun, it would sell for well over $10,000.00. It is full size, weight and functions mechanically the same as a real Colt 45 Peacemaker with the 4 3/4" barrel. The two-tone finish is plated in gleaming nickle and gold. An American Eagle is artfully rendered in fine scrimshaw-like detail on the left side of the faux ivory grips. Holding this heavy piece in your hand and working the three position action conjures up visions of the old west w the Colt 45 was known as the "Equalizer". This decorative gun model is made from the same molds by the same Japanese company that produced them for the Franklin Mint. It was originally made to commemorate the 100th anniversary of John Wayne's birth. The only difference being that it does not have his signature on the back strap. It does however, have his Red River D brand on the left side of the frame. Since Franklin Mint tried to sell these replicas in the $400.00 range, it is my guess that they didn't sell enough to cover the cost of the tooling to manufacture them. Tfore they are now available at a greatly reduced price. This is a new item and will be shipped in the original styrofoam fitted box and double wrapped for added protection. This is not made of gun makers proof steel and cannot chamber or fire live ammunition. Besides, read more
