This is an original aluminum No. 5 Columbia Reproducer that was standard equipment from 1903 to 1905. It was also referred to as the Floating Model D Reproducer. It can be used on most Columbia Cylinder Graphophones up to 1905 including some of the large diameter cylinder Concert Grand Graphophones to the small simple "Eagle" Type A and smaller Q graphophone models. This one has the larger diaphragm for better fidelity then the smaller No. 4 reproducer. This particular example has the earlier lever arm with the sapphire connected to it which is perfect, (they later cheapened the reproducer by eliminating this feature and by having the stylus directly cemented to the diaphragm). This older model has a built up mica diaphragm, with the aluminum housing and a jewelers polished design underneath showing through the diaphragm. It plays perfect and is ready to go, in excellent condition. It will play Edison and Columbia 2 minute cylinders (concert grand size included) as well as the New Indestructible Wizard Cylinder Records. These original reproducers are becoming scarce! Net weight 1.5 ounces.
