Columbia, NC- County of Tyrrell 50¢ 1861 Sir John Tyrrell, a Lord Proprietor of the Carolina colony was the namesake for the county. Union forces occupied the Albemarle region beginning in 1862 and Columbia was bombarded. A rarely encountered remainder, this example grades Very Fine. Stains, holes, and splits are observed.
