You are bidding for a PATENT COMBINED ALTITUDE INSTRUMENT AND PRISMATIC COMPASS in a leather case complete with sling.

This rare japanned and lacquered instrument is pictured against a catalogue of Francis Barker & Son dated 1926, and shows the instrument being used on a tripod for measuring elevation.

The instrument is in fine working condition with good prism optics and sighting vane. The reverse of the instrument has the triangular Barker Logo together with the tripod mount, whilst the front has the number 2461 and "Barkers Patent No 1926"

Compass and elevation dials are clear, and t is both a transit lock and damping button.

The brown leather case is in good, undamaged condition, complete with shoulder strap.

Francis Barker had offices in SUN-DIAL HOUSE, LONDON EC1, and made many different types of mining & surveying instruments for both Military and Civilian use. Copies of the catalogue are available from mils-spec in Italy.
