Here is another wonderful piece of history: a complete 1876 Atlas for famous Dutchess County, New York, published by Reading Publishing, "compiled and drawn from Personal Examinations, Surveys & Under the Personal Supervision of O.W. Gray & Son & F.A. Davis." In addition to dozens of (67 pages) hand-drawn, -colored and -written maps of the hamlets and towns of Dutchess County (Hyde Park, Tivoli, Rhinebeck and Rhinecliff, Poughkeepsie, Red Hook, Milan, Amenia, Beekman, Staatsburg and many others), it also contains maps of the United States and the World, according to their configurations circa 1876. Just fascinating how much detail is on some of the maps, e.g., "Mrs. Freeborn's house," "Mrs. Mary Livingston," etc. Many of these maps sell individually for up to $100 and more. The atlas is very large, too large for my scanner. It is about 17 1/4 x 14 1/2. There is wear to the spine but it is still attached and all the pages still bound. Includes wonderful illustrations of prominent houses and businesses, very charming and worthy of framing. There are many pages of statistics, lists in the back of farmers and schools and lawyers and residents. Invaluable for genealogical research. There is some yellowing, foxing inside, but I don't see any damage to the maps at all. At least three are pullouts, one of Poughkeepsie has tape on the edge read more
