Complete Max Dannhorn Magic Lantern Slide Projector, c. 1885 from Nuremberg, Germany Description: Beautiful 19th century German magic lantern projector with lenses, decorative lense holder and wooden base, chimney, original burner and 4 slides. Metal body is in good condition but with paint loss. Features the Dannhorn whimsical curvacious lense holder, the polished bell-shaped burner font, the finely polished "roof" or chimney holder, and the painted wooden base. Luikerwaal's lantern site pictures a similar lantern with the same base, lense holder, body, and roof and identifies it as a " red lacquered lamp house, polished bell-shaped lamp base, and roof. Outstanding lens holder." This lamp is 2 inches taller than that one with a total height of 11 inches. The Eastman House collection also features a similar lantern and calls it a " red painted vertical barrel Dannhorn lantern." Condition: Polished brass and and tin body is solid. Lamp base and holder is in good shape. The two lenses in the lense barrel and the condenser lense in the lamp body are all present and scratch free. I have used this unit in shows but since my insurance no longer allows me to have open flames in public exhibitions, I am selling off several of my projectors and keeping a few oil and gas type lanterns for display purposes.
