"SCARCE" Floral Decorated WMG Miniature Oil Lamp Boldly Decorated WMG Miniature Lamp, S2-260 About 7 1/2" tall to top of shade About 4 1/2" wide at widest point As Pictured in Smith 2, Figure 360 Background & History: This lamp is shown in Figure 360 of Ruth Smith's book "Miniature Lamps II" and listed in Marjorie Hulsebus' "Price Guide for Miniature Lamps" as being "Scarce". Smith notes that the lamp is quite similar to the one shown in her first book ("Miniature Lamps"), written with her husband Frank, in Figure 312--a lamp which is also rated as being "Scarce." Both lamps, apparently, are found painted in different colors with a variety of floral patterns. This lamp, however, appears to match the lamp in S2-360 in every respect--the floral pattern matching that shown on the lamp in the book and the colors being as described by Smith. While the lamp pictured in black and white in the book appears rather plain, in color this lamp is really quite attractive. The large, rust colored flowers painted on this lamp are quite bold and they stand out from the white and pale green background. Condition of this lamp: This lamp is in really quite good condition. T are a number of minor flea-bites and one or two shallow flakes on the top edge of the globe (see the 4th photo) which does not really detract from the appearance of the lamp. Other than that, t are no chips, cracks or other discernible defects. The painted decor on this lamp is in excellent condition--the colors remain bright and t are no visible signs of the paint being worn. The brass hardware, which has been polished, is in fine condition. The collar is securely attached to the base. A Nutmeg burner (embossed "P & A MFG CO" on the fully functional thumb wheel) screws tightly into the collar. The shade ring fits snugly over the burner gallery and holds the globe securely in place. A clear glass chimney, with no chips, cracks or other defects, completes this lamp. As noted above, this lamp is rated as being "Scarce". How scarce is it? Well out of the more than 27,000 listed miniature lamps we've seen offered on eBay during the past 4 1/2 years, only two were like this lamp and only 8 were like the similar lamp shown in S1-312.
