Starting bid is well below the orginal cost of $15.95 that was for just one of these books from the USPS. World War II Remembered U.S. Postal Service stamp and book collection is a unique piece in that t is a set of five hard cover books with 40 pages of text and black/white and color photos explaining the events that took place during World War II.Inside each book are packets of stamps, maps, and mounts to affix each stamp and map into the proper place in the album. All five albums fit neatly into a protective hard-cover slipcase. Each book has an open space so the reader can affix the proper stamp or map onto the page as the story is read. The first book is titled '1941-A World At War". Some of the 29-cents stamps that belong to this book are titled: Burma Road, 717 mile lifeline to China, America's first peacetime draft-1940, U.S. supports allies with Lend-Lease Act, America becomes "arsenal of democracy" and many other stamps are included in the sealed packet found inside the book. The second book is titled "1942-Into The Battle". This book includes stamps such as: B-25s take off to raid Tokyo April 18, 1942; U.S. wins battle of the Coral Sea, May 1942. The third book in the collection is titled "1943-Turning The Tide". Some of the stamps in this book are Allied Forces Battle German U-Boats 1943, and B-24s hit Ploesti refineries, August 1943. The fourth book in the collection is titled "1944-Road to Victory". It features stamps such as Airborne units spearhead attacks, 1944; Bastogne and the Battle of the Bulge, Dec. 1944. The last book of the series is titled "1945-Victory At Last". The stamps in this book are 32-cents and include the following: Germany Surrenders at Reims, May 7, 1945; Truman announces Japan's surrender, August 14, 1945; and Hometown honor their returning veterans, 1945. This World War II mint set contains stamps and mounts to protect all the stamps depicted in the album. The mounts are pregummed on the back. All packets containing the stamps are sealed.
