WONDERFUL LETTER SIGNED BY THE GREAT ENGLISH COMPOSER BENJAMIN BRITTEN REFERRING TO THE PREMIER OF "BILLY BUDD" Britten, Benjamin (1913-1976). Great English composer of "Peter Grimes". TYPED LETTER SIGNED, referring to the Premiere of "Billy Budd". Aldeburgh, Suffolk, October 31st, 1951. 72 words typed on 7 inch high by 5-3/8 inch wide "4 Crabbe St, Aldeburgh, Suffolk" stationery. Benjamin Britten thanks Mr. Beecham for his invitation to the November 8th concert at the Mercury Theatre but must decline as he is "too busy with the forthcoming production at Covent Garden to attend the concert." He concludes by asking Mr. Beecham to "Please give my best wishes to Miss Verney." Signed "Benjamin Britten". The letter is folded horizontally. T are light creases to the bottom corner and minor wear to the right of the top edge from mounting. Near fine. The great English composer Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) is perhaps best remembered for his works "Peter Grimes" and " The Children's Crusade ". The production to which he refers in his letter was the Premiere of his Opera "Billy Budd", based on Herman Melville's story. NO RESERVE!!!
