Description I'm pleased to offer this very striking fossil Stromatolite specimen from near Merzouga, Khenifra Province, Meknes-Tafilalet Region, Morocco. This fossil measures 4-1/4 x 4-1/4 x 4-1/2 inches.
I purchased a small lot of these at the recent Tucson Show and was told that they were concretions. They are actually fossil stromatolites from Cretaceous-aged (145-65 million years ago) rocks. Stromatolites are sedimentary structures that are formed from the action of cyanobacteria. The cyanobacteria form microbial mats that attract, trap and precipitate sediment. Through time, this process is shown as layers or laminations in the structure. Stromatolites are among the oldest fossils known and the most famous colonies are found at Shark Bay, Australia. I've only glossed over the definition and significance of stromatolites and I encourage a Google search for the curious collector. This is HEAVY and I will have to use a Flat Rate Priority Mail box at $9.85. T will be NO international shipping on this specimen---sorry. Please check my feedback and my other eBay items...thanks! All specimens are carefully wrapped, come with complete and accurate labels and are quickly shipped. As always, your complete satisfaction is unconditionally guaranteed. Quality specimens. Fast shipping and expert packaging. Reasonable shipping fees. A no-hassle money back guarantee with FREE return shipping on any item that fails to satisfy. Peace of mind. Buy with confidence---thanks for looking!
