For sale is a rare sought after Vargas black beeswax doll measuring 6 ½". She's in excellent original condition. Vargas was the daughter of world-renowned turn-of-the-century New Orleans Spanish sculptor, Francisco Vargas. From 1915-the 1930's, Mrs. Vargas Alphonso crafted a variety of wax dolls inspired by the black folk she saw while growing up. Wonderful modeling to the wax face and hands with glass eyes. My research showed these dolls were mostly sold through Harriet's in the New Orleans French quarter. They are highly sought after in the Black collectible arena and rarely come up for auction as they are prized. Signed Vargas on the bottom of the wooden stand.I've been listing Mom's items for some time now. She's allowed me to sell many things to first, get through college, and now to repay grad school bills. She's collected a variety of items over the years, the majority dolls and toys.
