SquareTr These relics were dug in a Confederate Camp on the Howlett Line in Bermuda Hundred, Virginia. 1) a Confederate coat size flat button has shank, B/m reads "PLATED" 2) a .58 Cal. Richmond Gardner Bullet 3 ) a PERFECT Confederate .577 Cal. Sprue Nose 3 ring Minie 4) an 1864 Indian Head Penny 5 ) a brass cartridge box finial. Dug on private property with land owners permission more than 30 years ago. Bermuda Hundred, Virginia On May 20, 1864, Confederate forces under Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard attacked Butler's Bermuda Hundred line near Ware Bottom Church About 10,000 troops were involved in this action. After driving back Butler's advanced pickets, the Confederates constructed the Howlett Line, effectively bottling up the Federals at Bermuda Hundred. Confederate victories at Proctor's Creek and Ware Bottom Church enabled Beauregard to detach strong reinforcements for Lee's army in time for the fighting at Cold Harbor.
