's an opportunity to own a crisp, clear, from life, great condition, CDV of Confederate Cavalry Colonel Henry M.Ashby who commanded the 2nd Tennessee Cavalry under General Joseph Wheeler. The 2nd Tennessee was formed by the combination of the 3rd Tennessee Battalion & the 5th Tennessee Battalion. Years ago someone had written on the bottom front of the CDV General Turner Ashby in error. The backmark of the CDV is E. & H. T. Anthony. An exact image like my CDV of Colonel Henry M. Ashby also appears on page 139 Of William Turner's great book on Confederate CDV, Confederate ambrotype, and Confederate tintype, EVEN MORE CONFEDERATE FACES identyfying him as truly Colonel Henry Ashby. From a excerpt from the original Confederate Veteran magazine of years past (which also has this picture of Colonel Ashby accompanying a story about Colonel Ashby) comes this quote, "From the first to the last of his service Colonel Ashby was on the front, always in the face of the enemy; and his ability, vigilance, and efficiency are attested by fact that at no time during the four years of service was any body of troops large or small, under his command were ever surprised by the enemy.
