This is an original Civil War letter from R.L Gentry M.E.D. Hamburg, SC to Governor of South Carolina, Milledge Bonham dated (?) 1863. On 3/4 sheet period lined paper as follows:Gov. Dear Sir You should put an order to be put at Sand Bar Ferry below Augusta on the Savannah some white person with instructions not to allow any provisions to cross unless it is accomapnied with your proclamation. Also at Fury's Ferry above Augusta on the Savannah River. I am having your orders carried out at my post, the Augusta Bridge both day & night. T is and has been large quantities of provisions coming out at these points. Yours, R.L Gentry M.E.D. This letter was among the collection of Confederate General Evander Law.
