This is an envelope that was taken to the post office and mailed. The postmaster applied the marking(s) he considered important for the letter's journey, which are considered highly collectible. The original letter does remain. Fantastic Condition item from an original, fresh find. Addressed "Miss Fannie Yance, Wytheville, Va." 2 page letter datelined "Pulaski, Va. May 20th 1863," headed "Dear Sister Fannie," and signed "Your affectionate Sister Finnie." Yes, this appears to be two sisters: Fannie and Finnie." Contents include "...George Chumbly was wouned right badly in the hand at the last battle. They are looking for him home about this time. Many valuable lives were lost in that battle, no doubt you have heard that Mr. David Earhart was killed. Poor Mary, I pitty here. Others mean it is too dreadful to think about.
